Cage Selection

Cage size and guinea pigs needs
In their natural habitat, guinea pigs are ground-dwelling creatures that love to forage and explore. This instinctive behavior means they need more floor space than you might initially think. Although they’re often compared to their smaller relatives—hamsters and gerbils—guinea pigs are much bigger and more active. Unfortunately, they’re frequently kept in enclosures that don’t offer enough room for them to move freely and engage with their environment. Therefore a spacious home is a better choice for your guinea pigs.
When choosing a cage, always plan for at least two guinea pigs, as they are highly social animals and should not be kept alone whenever it can be avoided.
When sizing our Woody’s cage, we wanted to make sure it provides ample space for two guinea pigs to live comfortably, explore freely, and enjoy a happy, healthy life together. Our size is based on the popular 2x4 C&C cage and is over the recommended size for two pigs at 0.98 m2 (2x4 C&C cage size = 10.5 ft2) per level.
